Mathilde May

Mathilde May loves reading and writing, and she loves kids. She started reading Indonesian, Dutch, and English storybooks when she was very young. She still does now. She started writing stories when still in primary school. Everything she sees or hears or feels become stories. Most of her stories are written in English. Besides writing her own storybooks, she also writes regularly for an English Magazine for Children.

Experience in Writing English Stories for Children

  • 2009 –  Published  “A Potion for Granny”, a bilingual (Englsih-Indonesian) storybook for children-  Translate into English Mombi’s “Let’s Learn English” article
  • 2007 Wrote a storybook for children in Bahasa Indonesia “Cerita-cerita Kecil Untukmu” together with a friend
  • 2003 – Now Contributor of stories, legends, folktales, and comic strips to C’nS Junior, the Cool and Smart English Magazine for Children
  • 2003 – 2007 Senior Editor of C’nS Junior, the Cool and Smart English Magazine for Children
  • 2008 Jury of Children English Speech Contest, held by DKI Public Library at Nyi Ageng Serang, Kuningan
  • 2006 –  Give a 2-day Workshop on “How to Write English Stories for Children” at Binus University; Give a 1-day Workshop on “How to Write English Stories for Children” at RELO Center of the American Embassy, Gedung Balai Pustaka;-  Workshop on “Teaching English through Story Reading and Writing” for Primary and Secondary School English Teachers of Kabupaten Bogor
  • 2004 Jury of National Children Story Writing and Story Telling Competition, held by The British Council, Jakarta
  • 2002 One of the writers of the English storybook published by Grasindo, “Where the Coffee Flowers Bloom and Other Stories”, as result of a Writing Children’s Stories Competition held by The Coca-Cola Foundation, Yayasan Pustaka Kelana, and The British Council
